Who is dafydd davies?
Dafydd Davies has been making shepherds' crooks and sheepdog whistles from his workshop in Wales for decades. His specialty is ram's horn — a material that resists, warps, and has to be convinced. That challenge, he'll tell you, is exactly the point.
His work has earned a reputation that extends well beyond the trial field. In 1997, he was commissioned by His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales to produce six specially engraved shepherds' crooks in ram's horn as Christmas gifts — each made from Welsh ram's horn on mottled hazel shanks grown in Wales. Additional commissions for the Royal Household have followed over the years.
His client list reads like a different kind of Who's Who: The Archbishop of Canterbury. The Duke of Wellington. The Duke and Duchess of Harewood. The Roux brothers. The ISDS. And across trial fields around the world, his crooks are in the hands of handlers who know exactly what they're holding.
More recently, Dafydd's handcrafted sheepdog whistles — made in horn, mineralised polymer, thermoset acrylic, and resin — have taken on a life of their own.
